Kiwi Brevet still Day 7

Good: we made it!! Rolled into Seymour square at 9am, well inside our 10am 7day deadline. We started riding at 520am, beautiful in the darkness and as the sun came up. Was some of the riding I’ve enjoyed the most in this event! Last night’s total wreckedness had luckily receded. Once we’d done the first 22km in an hour, we knew we’d make it. Awesome to see Rachel and Mark both waiting at the finish to cheer us πŸ™‚ and then we were able to cheer Yvonne not long after. Very good food and service at cbd cafe.

Bad: slog back to Picton! But we made it.

Gear appreciation: couldn’t have done this event without aerobars and compeed plasters.

Gear hating: newish Isadore shorts going in ‘commuting only’ bin. Also thinking about buying another saddle (sorry Richard!)

Thanks heaps to Scott and Jo for organising a gruelling but awesome event! And too all the amazing people I met, especially riding companions from day 2 onwards David and Gareth, and also Rod and Yvonne and Jared who we repeatedly hung out with along the way!

Will try and do a proper write up as so much happened that these little entries don’t do justice.

  1. Congratulations Amanda on your awesome effort. Have been following you by default as. I am friends with Gareth. Each brevett you do you seem to be going stronger and longer so well done to you. I will be interested to see your next adventure and may see you on one of the Northern gravel grinds this year. Enjoyed reading your blog as well.

  2. Well done Amanda! Thanks for the daily entertainment over the past week. We must have that long overdue catch up so I can hear more about your recent events!

  3. Wahoo another one in the bank. Yeah, that short ride to Picton can be brutal in the wind. Speaking of saddles… I just splashed out a new one for the latest n+1. I must have at least half a dozen barely saddles in a box that I don’t like lol.

    1. Don’t suppose you have a spare selle anatomica lying around?! Going to try that next…

      1. Nup, but I would recommend leather, so that means Brooks/Selle Anatomical or Rivet. A saddle that shapes to you is a better approach.

I have a heap of plastic saddles, which are all only good for the first 100km.. Brooks Swift Ti saddles on all my bikes. I need a new bank manager though… Pretty hard to source leather saddles other than Brooks locally in NZ.
